Why use Intelligent Buyers

Three hours of solar research gets most people nowhere.
We built a better way.

By the time you've Googled MCS, NAPIT, RECC, tried to figure out which installers cover your postcode, looked for ones who also do batteries and EV chargers and heat pumps if you need them, and read enough Trustpilot reviews to make your eyes ache, you're no closer to three comparable quotes.

We do that work on your behalf. Three hand-picked solar companies, all qualified for the job you want done, all quoting on the same brief. Pick the one whose service, availability, and price suit you. Any of the three is a safe pick.

You choose who contacts you.

Most comparison sites sell your details to three or four installers. One form, a week of unsolicited calls from companies you never chose.

Your details go only to your three matched companies — never sold on.

Comparable quotes built on the same brief

Without a shared brief, Installer A quotes 12 panels, Installer B quotes 14 with a battery, Installer C includes an eddi. The prices differ because the systems differ. Every company on your shortlist quotes against the same brief.

The quotes are directly comparable.

A system sized for your home

Many installers design systems to maximise their sale. Oversized batteries, unnecessary add-ons, often costing thousands more than an accurately sized system.

Your profile sets the brief. The three companies design to that.

Our fee doesn't change. Neither does our recommendation.

Every company in our network pays the same fixed fee per match, regardless of which one you choose. Your decision is entirely yours.

The Intelligent Buyers Panel

The five checks that get an installer into our panel.

~20%
Around 20% of MCS-registered companies currently meet all five Intelligent Buyers criteria.

MCS certification confirms a company cleared the legal minimum to operate. It says nothing about whether they employ their own installation teams, how recently they have worked on your specific technology, or whether they are financially stable enough to honour a warranty in five years. Intelligent Buyers checks all of that, independently, before any company joins the panel. That is what the 20% means.

Based on Intelligent Buyers assessment of MCS-registered solar installers active in April 2026. Methodology and full criteria available on request.

Five criteria — every company on the panel must pass all five, continuously

01
MCS certification — verified directly
Certificate number, expiry, and specific technologies covered. Checked against the MCS installer database — not taken from the company's own website.
02
Financial stability
Companies House trading history, director records, filed accounts, and any county court judgments. A company can be MCS-certified and financially unstable. Intelligent Buyers checks both.
03
Employed installation teams
A minimum of three active, employed installation teams confirmed. MCS does not distinguish between employed and subcontracted workforces. Intelligent Buyers does.
04
Review integrity
Minimum 4.0 Google rating — and how a company responds to negative reviews. Response behaviour is a stronger quality signal than the score itself. Intelligent Buyers monitors this continuously.
05
Electrical accreditation
NAPIT certification and RECC consumer accreditation verified directly against the directories — not accepted from a company's own listing.

What you could check yourself — with time and effort

Google rating and review count Publicly visible at google.com. The score is accessible. Reading every response to understand behaviour takes considerably longer.
MCS certificate number and expiry Searchable at mcscertified.com. Confirms a certificate exists. Does not show installation volume or recency by technology.
Basic company registration Available at companieshouse.gov.uk. Filing status and director names are accessible to anyone.

This covers three of the five Intelligent Buyers criteria, partially. It takes hours per company. Most homeowners do not attempt it. Intelligent Buyers does this for every company before a single plan is sent, and repeats it on an ongoing basis.

What only Intelligent Buyers can verify

MCS installation history by technology Battery installations nearly doubled in 2025. Some new certifications have two installations behind them. The public certificate shows none of this. Intelligent Buyers checks actual volume and recency before any company joins the panel.
Whether teams are employed or subcontracted MCS makes no distinction. A certified company may send a different subcontracted crew to every job. Intelligent Buyers requires confirmation of a minimum of three active employed teams.
Current install capacity A company may be certified and not taking new projects. Intelligent Buyers confirms live capacity at onboarding and monitors it. A company with no available teams cannot receive a plan.
Financial health beyond basic filing status Accounts, director history, and adverse indicators assessed in context. A company with one filing from three years ago is a different proposition to one with a clean, current record. The difference is not visible to a casual search.

Every company on the panel passes all five criteria before a single profile is sent. Companies that drop below threshold are paused. Not warned. Paused.

The market right now

Now is the best time to get solar. Here is why.

Costs are at a low point, bills are rising, and the financial case for acting now is stronger than it has been for years.

All installation data from the MCS across 856,026 UK certified installations. Energy price data from Ofgem. Supply chain data from DESNZ and Solar Energy UK.

8–15%

The expected rise in solar panel costs by late 2026.

China removed its 9% VAT export rebate on solar panels on 1 April 2026. That cost is working through the supply chain now. The current average of £8,191 is likely the low point, not the floor.

DESNZ solar PV cost data · DIY Solar UK, April 2026

12%

The forecast rise in household energy bills from 1 July 2026.

Energy bills fell in April, but that is forecast to reverse sharply in July. Cornwall Insight projects the Ofgem cap rising from £1,641 to £1,837 per year. Bills are already 35% above pre-crisis levels.

4–12p

What you currently earn per unit exported to the grid, versus 24.5p to buy it back.

As more homes go solar, grid export income per home falls. Installing now, while local capacity is still available, protects your return.

Ofgem Smart Export Guarantee tariff data, 2026

0%

VAT on solar installation — until 31 March 2027.

Solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps are currently VAT-free for residential installations. On a typical system, that saves £275 to £450 compared to standard rate. It is not guaranteed beyond March 2027.

HMRC · Ofgem, April 2026

178,947

Solar installations in 2025 — the highest ever. One every 3 minutes, all year.

Each new installation increases local grid saturation. In some areas, DNOs are already limiting how much surplus power new systems can export. Installing now, before local capacity closes, protects your financial return.

£8,191

The current average system cost — down 21% from the 2023 peak.

With supply chain pressures building and the 0% VAT window closing in March 2027, the current price point is unlikely to improve further.
